CHESTER, NH - September 3, 2008 - Granite State Telephone (GST) will host a customer open house and cookout on Saturday, September 20, 2008. The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the company's Chester Operations Center located on Rt. 102, 8 Derry Road, Chester, NH.
The open house will feature a cookout at 11:30 a.m., pumpkin painting, face painting, giveaways, raffles, and a Nintendo Wii interactive station. This year, special guest Steve Thomas, an award winning magician, will perform thrilling magic tricks that will leave guests asking ... how did he do that? With over 25 years of experience as an actor and magician, Steve was co-host and resident magician on the popular, long running WMUR-TV show "Uncle Gus". He also toured as Ronald McDonald, the goodwill ambassador for McDonald's restaurants, for over 20 years, and he produced and hosted a number of children's programs which aired on WMUR-TV.
The open house will also feature the company's 4th annual Hometown Hero Award presentation at 12:00 p.m. Eleanor Bassett of Sandown will receive the award for her outstanding contributions to her community. Eleanor, along with several other volunteers, started the Sandown Food Pantry and has personally manned it, solicited donations, and delivered meals to families in need for several years. In addition to delivering food, Eleanor also works with local markets to obtain donations, works with area schools, local civic organizations and distributes special baskets to those in need on Thanksgiving and Christmas. These are just a few of the many contributions Eleanor has made to her community over the years. Her selfless dedication to her community has made her the perfect candidate for the Hometown Hero Award.
"We look forward to hosting our annual open house each year," comments William Stafford, chief operating officer. We will also have GST team members on hand to answer any questions customers may have regarding our services, including the latest rollout of our ultra high speed Fiber Optic Internet and phone services."
